Stephenson Sets Franchise Points Record for Defencemen

Eric Stephenson found the scoresheet again on December 19th, and with that goal, etched his name even deeper into the history of YOUR Renegades. Stephenson now stands alone as the franchise’s all-time points leader among defensemen, surpassing former captain Christian Bascio.

Over four seasons with YOUR Renegades, Stephenson has appeared in 150 games, just nine shy of the all time games played record held by Marc Anthony Lacroix. Since beginning his Renegades career in 2022, he has served as team captain for two seasons and has become one of the most reliable and consistent players the organization has ever seen.

Stephenson has recorded 29 goals and 118 assists to date, all while being trusted in every situation. Despite heavy usage on both the power play and penalty kill, he has logged just six total penalty minutes across 150 games. That works out to 0.04 penalty minutes per game, the best rate in league history among players with at least 120 games played. His ability to play hard, disciplined hockey while remaining effective on both sides of the puck has set him apart year after year.

His on ice performance has been matched by consistent league recognition. Stephenson has finished runner up and second runner up for the GMHL South Best Defenseman award in 2023 and 2024, and he remains a leading candidate once again this season. He is a two time GMHL All Star, a GMHL South Player of the Month winner, and the recipient of the 2024 to 2025 Most Sportsmanlike Player of the Year award.

This season, Stephenson is also on pace to accomplish another first. He currently leads YOUR Renegades in scoring with 41 points in 27 games and could become the first defenseman in team history to lead the club in points over a full season. The single season record for points by a Renegades defenseman is 66, set by Bascio in 2021, a mark that is firmly within reach.

Beyond the numbers, Stephenson’s impact is felt every day through his leadership. His commitment to accountability, respect, and reliability has helped guide YOUR Renegades to a South Division championship, a second Russell Cup Finals appearance, and a culture that continues to elevate the program and its players. He has also led the team in games played for three consecutive seasons, a reflection of his durability and dedication.

The Renegades organization and its supporters proudly recognize Eric Stephenson for his exceptional contribution on and off the ice. His legacy continues to grow, and YOUR Renegades are better for it.
